Under EC Regulation 2037/2000, a number of commonly used refrigerants are due to be phased out over the next few years. In order to avoid unpleasant surprises, Optimum is pro-actively working with clients to identify potential issues in plenty of time to take appropriate action.
Many chillers currently in use are still running on older HCFC refrigerants such as R22 but in the very near future these refrigerants will not be available for maintenance purposes. New HCFCs will be banned from 2010 and this ban will be extended to recycled HCFCs from 2015.
By assessing the condition of plant and its future life, we are able to advise clients who have HCFC machines on the most cost-effective option when preparing for the ban. This may be conversion to run on a different refrigerant or, if the equipment is already quite old, it may be more sensible to upgrade to new plant.
In addition to advising clients on existing refrigerant regulations, Optimum works closely with trade bodies to remain fully informed of future legislation so that we can adapt our procedures accordingly.
